Signs of labor in goats
Her udder fills with milk and turns tight, and her hips seem to relax. When labor starts she leaves the herd, makes a nest and gets up and down as if she cannot get comfortable. A string of mucus from under her tail comes shortly before the water bag.
Signs she is close

The three stages
1.
Start of labor: the signs above.
2.
The birth: once the water bag shows, she should have a kid within 1 hour.
3.
Cleaning out: the afterbirth. The whole kidding should be over within 12 to 14 hours.
When to help or call your vet

No kid within 1 hour of the water bag showing.
•
She keeps straining, or showing labor, after she has delivered.
•
Her window passes with no signs of kidding.
When to start watching
•
Goats carry about 150 days. Watch her closely from about 10 days before her due date — does carrying twins or triplets often kid early.
